You can't see this any more in real life, but between the filming of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, Hobbiton was left abandoned and disassembled, the set stripped away. If you were to go there now, after The Hobbit, you'd find the hobbit village constructed for real and visitable.
This temporary relic remains only in photographic records now, and carries an empty quality that I like quite a bit.
